Methode Electronics reported net sales of $265.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, a 10.4 percent jump from the $240.5 million posted in the same period last year. The company credited the uptick mainly to stronger Industrial segment volumes and a more favorable product mix, which included organic growth in data-center business and higher lighting volumes for both on-highway and off-highway vehicles, supported by customer recoveries.
Gross profit also moved higher, reaching $47.7 million compared to $43.5 million in the prior-year quarter. That improvement, however, has not yet translated into a meaningful recovery in operating profit, and the company also announced $400 million in lifetime program awards during the quarter, a figure that points to future revenue but does little for current margins.
The central question hanging over Methode is timing. Sales are clearly responding to demand in key end markets, especially data centers and commercial vehicles. But cost pressures, supply chain friction, and the lag between booking new programs and ramping production continue to squeeze profitability. Management has not given a specific date for when operating margins will return to historical levels, and analysts are watching inventory levels and pricing discipline closely.
For now, the market seems willing to reward the top-line momentum, but patience is wearing thin. Investors want to see evidence that the sales growth is not just real but also profitable. Until that happens, the stock may remain stuck in a pattern where good news on revenue is met with skepticism about the bottom line.
