Parent, finance consultant Boyce vies for Area 2 seat on LVJUSD board

A finance consultant and parent of two district students, Tara Boyce has officially entered the race for the Area 2 seat on the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District board. Boyce, who has lived in Livermore for over a decade, says her professional background in budgeting and her daily experience with the schools give her a practical view of the district's challenges.

Her campaign centers on three main priorities: fiscal transparency, stronger support for classroom teachers, and clearer communication between the board and families. Boyce has pointed to recent budget shortfalls in neighboring districts as a warning, arguing that Livermore needs board members who can read financial reports closely and ask the right questions before approving spending. She also wants to see more consistent mental health resources at the middle school level, a gap she says she has heard about from other parents during door-to-door conversations.

Boyce is not a political newcomer. She has served on the district's parcel tax oversight committee and volunteered with the PTA at both of her children's schools. That experience, she says, showed her that many decisions are made without enough input from the people most affected. She promises to hold regular office hours and to publish a summary of her votes and reasons online after each board meeting.

The election will take place in November. Area 2 covers the central part of Livermore, and the current trustee has not yet announced whether they will seek another term. Boyce faces at least one other challenger, though the field may still grow before the filing deadline.
