TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sen. Bernie Sanders brought his "Fighting Oligarchy" tour to Florida's capital Sunday night, throwing his national progressive movement behind a local candidate while acknowledging his own campaign finance missteps.
Speaking to a packed crowd, Sanders framed the race as part of a broader struggle against concentrated wealth and corporate influence in politics. He urged supporters to channel frustration into local organizing, arguing that change starts at the municipal level rather than in Washington.
The Vermont senator also addressed recent reporting on his campaign's financial practices, conceding that mistakes were made in how funds were tracked and disclosed. He said the errors were unintentional and pledged to tighten internal controls, adding that transparency matters especially when running against entrenched interests.
The event drew a mix of longtime activists, students, and residents new to political organizing. Several attendees said they came to hear a national voice speak directly to local concerns like housing costs and wages.
Sanders closed by urging the crowd to stay engaged beyond election day, warning that movements fade when supporters disengage after the votes are counted.
