Willis Lease Finance has signed a five year agreement with Pratt and Whitney to provide engine storage and lease return services. The deal broadens the company's footprint in the aviation aftermarket and strengthens its ties with one of the industry's largest engine makers.
Under the arrangement, Willis Lease Finance will handle storage for Pratt and Whitney engines, along with the related work that comes when leases wind down. That includes inspection, preservation, and preparing units for return. It is a niche but important part of the engine lifecycle, and it plays to the company's existing technical strengths.
The agreement also signals that Willis Lease Finance is moving beyond its core leasing business into more service oriented work. For a company that has traditionally focused on acquiring and leasing engines, this kind of partnership adds a steady revenue stream that does not depend on finding new lessees.
Shares of Willis Lease Finance were trading around 71 dollars and change when the news came out. The stock has been on a strong run over the past year, helped by solid demand for aircraft parts and services. Investors have been watching the company closely as it builds out its aftermarket capabilities, and this deal gives them another reason to stay interested.
The partnership with Pratt and Whitney is not the first of its kind for Willis Lease Finance, but it is one of the longer commitments. Five years gives both sides room to plan and invest. It also suggests that the engine maker sees real value in outsourcing this part of its operations to a specialist.
For Willis Lease Finance, the deal is a vote of confidence in its operational team and its ability to handle complex logistics. It also opens the door to more work down the line, possibly with other manufacturers. The company has said it wants to grow its service segment, and this agreement is a clear step in that direction.
