Zaria Systems, a technology firm focused on real-time infrastructure for mark-to-market credit and structured finance, is now setting its sights on obtaining a charter for a special-purpose national trust bank. The move signals a significant step for the company as it looks to bridge the gap between traditional banking rails and the fast-moving world of asset-backed securities and collateralized loan obligations.
The company has been building out a platform that allows investors and issuers to track the live value of complex credit instruments, rather than relying on periodic, often stale, valuations. By pursuing a trust bank charter, Zaria would be able to hold assets in custody, manage cash flows, and provide trustee services directly on its own infrastructure. This would remove the need for third-party custodians and administrators, which often slow down settlement and add layers of operational risk.
Industry observers note that the charter application, if approved, could give Zaria a distinct edge in the structured finance market, where speed and accuracy of collateral data are becoming increasingly critical. The firm is not looking to become a full commercial lender. Instead, the special-purpose trust bank would act as a neutral, regulated intermediary for the deals that run through its software. The application is still pending regulatory review, but the company has indicated that it expects to begin pilot programs with several large asset managers later this year. If successful, this could pave the way for a new class of tech-enabled trust banks operating in the capital markets.
