BitGo Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:BTGO) is buying the institutional trading desk of NYDIG, a move that brings derivatives, structured products, and financing services under the same roof as its existing custody and settlement operations. The deal was reported by CNBC on August 27, 2026, and marks a significant shift for BitGo, which has traditionally focused on safekeeping digital assets rather than executing trades.
As part of the transaction, about 30 NYDIG employees will move over to BitGo, along with roughly 250 institutional client relationships. A person familiar with the matter said the integration is expected to be smooth since both firms already serve similar types of clients, such as hedge funds, family offices, and asset managers.
The timing is notable. Crypto trading volumes have picked up again after a quiet stretch, and BitGo appears to be positioning itself to capture more of that activity. By adding NYDIG's trading infrastructure, BitGo can now offer a fuller suite of services without clients having to go to multiple providers. That could be a competitive advantage as institutional players look for fewer counterparties and more streamlined operations.
No financial terms of the deal were disclosed. The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approvals, but the companies expect to close the deal before the end of the year. For NYDIG, the sale lets it focus on its core bitcoin mining and asset management businesses. For BitGo, it is a clear bet that institutional crypto trading will keep growing.
